The 2000 release, Banjo On The Run was Ron's first record of his own that he had he released in over 10 years. Joined by special guests Rob Ickes, Jason Carter, Ray Craft, Don Rigsby, Bernie Faulkner, Keith Tew, Travis Alltop, Ric McClure, David Kazee, John Hewey, Randy Barnes and Randy Howard, this is, needless to say a top notch project that was a long time coming for Ron.

Banjo On The Run started getting great reviews from its release. Read below at what the critics had to say about Banjo On The Run.

After a ten year absence from music Ron Rigsby is back and sounding fine. He is a gifted banjo picker, a strong vocalist and his six original compositions on this CD are all first rate. Highlights on this recording are Rigsby's own "Banjo On The Run" and "Takin' the Backroad 'To JD's'". Rigsby does an excellent cover of "Mandolin Rain" the final track on this CD... maybe he included it for the line "Listen to the bluegrass band". If it's Rigsby I'll listen. - Tim Farrell, North West Bluegrass News, Bluegrass In Review

Sometimes in life, a person will pursue one goal, but end up achieving another. And how about purchasing a banjo CD and getting some other big surprise? Such is the case with Ron Rigsby and his release, Banjo On The Run. What is marketed as a banjo album turns out to be a stunning example of getting much more for your money than you bargained for. In short, this boy can SING!!
First, let’Äôs not slight Ron’Äôs expertise on the 5-string banjo. The opening original, ’ÄúBanjo On The Run’Äù really sets the pace for the CD, which runs the gamut of country, pop, and bluegrass. The instrumentals here are first rate, and I do have my favorites. I especially like ’ÄúTakin The Backroad to JD’Äôs’Äù, and the tone that Ron is able to achieve on this number. In short, he has that elusive J.D. Crowe sound nailed solid on this lyrical creation. Very nice, indeed!... Really the focus on this album should be Ron Rigsby’Äôs voice, for I feel that this is where his talent really lies... While studying the nicely written liner notes, I found that Ron had been out of the music scene for ten years, and Banjo On The Run is the debut CD, and such a great showcase for this man of many talents. When he was five, he begged his mother to change his name to Ricky Nelson, thinking that he would be able to sing just like his childhood idol. As it turns out, he will probably make his OWN name in bluegrass OR country music fields, if he wishes. Both doors are open, and all Ron has to do is choose one of them. Maybe then some little five year old will want to change his name to Ron Rigsby. - David Richardson, Tricopolis Records

This fella sure has some tasty licks up his sleeve. He dips into some inventive melodic runs, stuff that stays just this side of new acoustic spacegrass... Mostly it's pretty traditionally oriented, just with a bright, innovative feel that sets him apart from the pack. Also includes a few vocal tunes, which edge into more folk-oriented Americana terrain... This disc is a real treat, worth checking out, particularly if you like sweet, hot banjo playing. - Joe Sixpack, slipcue.com
